Field Calibration of Semipermeable Membrane Devices (SPMDs) for Persistent Organic Pollutant Monitoring in a Reservoir

چکیده

Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in water can reach levels below ppt (ng L−1), representing a challenge for risk assessment using long-term exposure. Therefore, sampling devices to monitor trace of organic compounds are suitable due their sensitivity and low detection limits. In this work, the field calibration monitoring POPs, such as Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) pesticides, drinking reservoir were carried out semipermeable membrane (SPMDs). The SPMDs spiked with deuterated PCBs used PRCs, dissipation was measured at 5, 10, 15 24 days. dialyzed hexane twice initial amount (N) final (No) PRCs extracts estimated by GC/MS calculate rate (Rs) target compounds. dissipated more than 30% days, Rs calculated between 27.8 72.7 L day−1 PAHs 35.8 71.3 pesticides. Finally, PAH congeners Naphthalene, Acenaphthylene, Acenaphthene, Fluorene, Phenanthrene, Anthracene, Fluoranthene Pyrene detected concentration (Cw) ranges 0.5 2.7 ng L−1, whilst chlorpyrifos only pesticide 19.0 L−1 reservoir. This showed that do not dissipate entirely days modelling may be applied Cw estimation POPs reservoirs.

Field uptake rates of hydrophobic organic contaminants by semipermeable membrane devices: environmental monitoring considerations.

The uptake rates of selected hydrophobic organic contaminants (HOCs) by semipermeable membrane devices (SPMDs)--a polyethylene layflat containing the lipid triolein--were investigated under natural conditions. SPMDs were exposed in three sampling sites (industrial, urban, and agricultural areas) in the Tajo River (Toledo, Spain) for 5, 11 and 20 d. The organochlorine compounds 4,4'-DDT, 4,4'-DD...

Detection of persistent organic pollutants in the Mississippi Delta using semipermeable membrane devices.

From semipermeable membrane devices (SPMDs) placed in five Mississippi Delta streams in 1996 and 1997, the persistent organic pollutants (POPs) aldrin, chlordane, DCPA, DDT, dieldrin, endrin, heptachlor, mirex, nonachlor, and toxaphene were detected. In addition, the insecticides chlorpyriphos, endosulfan, and hexachlorocyclohexanes were detected. Two low-solubility herbicides not detected comm...

How useful are the "other" semipermeable membrane devices (SPMDs); the mini-unit (15.2 cm long)?

Mini (15.2 cm) semipermeable membrane devices (SPMDs) were used successfully in 169 streams from six metropolitan areas of the US to sequester hydrophobic organic compounds (HOCs) that are indicative of urbanization. A microscale assay the P450RGS, which responds to compounds that bind to the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR), and the Fluoroscan, a chemical screen for polycyclic aromatic hydrocar...

Further developments in the use of semipermeable membrane devices (SPMDs) as passive air samplers for persistent organic pollutants: field application in a spatial survey of PCDD/Fs and PAHs.

Semipermeable membrane devices (SPMDs) were deployed at 19 sites in northwest England to test their efficacy as passive atmospheric samplers for polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and -furans (PCDD/Fs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). SPMDs were found to be efficient samplers for vapor phase species in the atmosphere, with good reproducibility between samplers. Species which are part...

Performance of semipermeable membrane devices for sampling of organic contaminants in groundwater.

Lipid-filled semipermeable membrane devices (SPMDs) are receiving increasing attention as passive, in situ samplers for the assessment of environmental pollutant exposure. Although SPMDs have been successfully used in a variety of field studies in surface waters, only a few studies have addressed their characteristics as groundwater samplers. In this study, the performance of the SPMDs for moni...
